'Elusor macrurus' is 2nd most endangered fresh water turtle in Australia. Tiaro Landcare is actively working to ensure its future.
This endangered species lives on our 'doorstep'. Consequently Tiaro Landcare has taken responsibility of caring for its survival and habitat. The project includes monitoring and protecting nesting banks, along with ongoing research, increasing public awareness and fund-raising through sale of merchandise. Research is being conducted by PhD candidates from The University of Qld, partly funded by sale of chocolate turtles.
